Now, we have got buttons to trigger our interactivity. We are going to setup a few elements up in here to get the actions to work properly at the right time. First of all, I have noticed that my texts labels are actually showing up in the beginning zoom part of our graphic. That is because we have the key frame located down here at the first frame or we can remedy that very quickly by grabbing that key frame that we made and dragging it on down the timeline until it is in the right place where we are doing our wide screen shot with the buttons. I will place it right there.
Now, also in our timeline, I am going to need a few pieces of scripts to exercise control. Our natural timelines play straight through. Now, we have got key frames in these locations signifying where my dad is going to change from one exercise to the other. I am going to use scripting to stop the playhead from playing right to the timeline like it normally does. Once again I am going to add a layer for this. You can see, we use layers a lot in this program for keeping all of our elements easy to find and easy to modify.
I will just call this layer, “Actions” because we are going to be using the action scripting program to control the timeline. In order to execute our controls once again, I am going to need some key frames to set things up for us. So I am going to add a key frame somewhere here before our dad starts his first exercise. But this time on the key frame we are going to be adding not a graphic object or a sound object but an action object.
I have got my actions panel dock right here to the top of the screen and if I click on the title it will open that panel up. It is going to set my action for that key frame that we had selected and I am going to use a very simple one, “stop”. I can have the program even type it for me by double clicking on the action that I want to perform. Now, let me get this action panel out of the way again. I will do that by clicking on the title once more and it will collapse up and stay up there in case we need it later. What this will do is make sure that as my dad finishes his intro and he is standing there waiting for us to do something, the playhead will not go on by itself and start playing the three exercises that we have setup.
Now, I am also going to need stops in between each one of these exercises. In the same way that the play would run right through and start the exercises, it will bounce from one to the other unless we tell it to do otherwise. Let us do that by copying this key frame with the stop action into each one of our animation segments. I can copy a whole key frame of information by using a special copy down in the timeline section of my edit panel which is setup to copy frames. Our normal copy command will not copy all of the elements of the frame just the graphics but our copy frames command will grab everything in it including our action scripts. With that copied, I can drop in a blank key frame and each one of our exercise sections and I can paste our action right in there.
You can see that little A up here showing us that our action has been copied correctly. I will do one more for the next exercise and one for the last. Now, one of the features that I am going to use to help us navigate around our movie is called a “label”. We are going to set a label on a frame very much like all the other settings we have done so far. It is going to be on a key frame. So I am going to insert a key frame and we can label that key frame by going right down to the Properties Menu. You can see here where it says frame label.
I will label this one, “waiting” because that is what our dad is doing at this point. He should be waiting to do an exercise. I enter the label in and you can see the label appears right up here at the top with the little flag indicating the frame that is on. I am going to add a label for each one of the exercises that calls out the exercise my dad is going to do. We will insert the key frame. This key frame is the knee bend exercise, the next one is our jumping jack exercise, and the last one
