Live from New York, it’s Lindsay Lohan? The troubled actress is set to return to host “Saturday Night Live,” and  TMZ reports  it was all her idea.

“...now that her community service is coming to an end, our sources say Lindsay called up [executive producer] Lorne [Michaels] and asked him to consider her for the show again. We're told they had multiple conversations and eventually settled on a date...”

That date? March 3rd.  Lindsay was once a favorite of “SNL”  - hosting three times before she turned 20. She even poked fun at her public image -- eerily so in this clip from ‘05.

LINDSAY LOHAN:  “Um, who are you?”
AMY POEHLER:  “I’m you. I’ve come back from the future to tell you, you gotta cool it with the partying.”

But after her fall from grace, Lilo became a target for the show,  parodied by the likes of Emma Stone.

EMMA STONE:  “Well, I’m way too busy to go to jail. I’ve got a career. I’ll just tell them that. They’ll totally get it.”

And Miley Cyrus...

MILEY CYRUS:  “Things are great. My new movie, ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded,’ opened 68 months ago. And, the Los Angeles Court House just gave me my own parking spot!”

Multiple reports say Lohan wants to remind people she’s an actress -- not just a Hollywood trainwreck -- by appearing on the show. Gawker suggests that could happen, if SNL handles her return the right way.

“Will they go the way of the tame show, mildly acknowledging Lindsay as a train wreck and politely moving on, or will they include her in the joke? Hopefully it's the latter, and LiLo will be willing to poke some fun at herself with that sense of humor and self-awareness we miss from her  Mean Girls  days of yore.”

But  a PopBytes blogger argues  the hosting gig feels out of place.

“[It’s] weird, because usually when they have a host in, it’s because the host has a project they want to plug, and unless Lindsay wants to plug her next lawsuit, I’m not sure what she has going for her right now.”


But  CNN says  Lindsay doesn’t need a project to promote -- her star power is enough.

“The sales success of her nude photo spread in Playboy magazine, which hit news stands in December, is evidence that Lohan's star power survived her legal troubles. Lohan was reportedly paid nearly $1 million to pose for the photos.”

Jack White is set as the musical guest for Lohan’s fourth “SNL” outing.
