Lindsay Lohan hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend. Lohan said she called Lorne Michaels and asked for the gig personally. It’s all part of her supposed comeback after years of court dates and scandalous headlines. And she acknowledged that — here’s a bit from her opening monologue:

“This studio feels like a home to me.”
“Wait, so the alarm goes off if I leave the stage? I thought it was only if I left the studio.”

Deadline Hollywood calls the monologue “lame.”

And EW goes as far as to dub Lohan “worst host of the year.”

But on the whole, reviews were mixed, with many saying Lohan didn’t wow — but didn’t fall on her face either. Here’s The Atlantic ...

“ … Lohan appeared healthy, upbeat, and pulled together (if somewhat surgically adjusted) and … comported herself just fine in what proved to be an uneven episode.”

And The Washington Post …  

“ … this was hardly a disaster on par with, say, Lana Del Ray. But Lohan also didn’t fully reclaim her status as a young comic performer worthy of casting in major Hollywood projects.”

Many called this bit — The Real Housewives of Disney — Lohan’s best of the night.

LOHAN: “Thank you all for coming to my castle-warming party. You guys are like stepsisters to me, and not the evil kind.”
WIIG: “Ladies, I’m starting a charity to help raise money for dwarves.”

Ultimately, consensus seemed to be that the show delivered in the beginning, but faltered. USAToday says:

“A lot was riding on the night for the actress … So it made sense when Lindsay opened the show on a self-deprecating note. … It was a solid start, but ... the show began to run out of steam toward the end …”

And TVLine actually blames SNL -- not Lohan --

“ … the tepid punch lines and underdeveloped sketches whipped up on this week’s show make it inconclusive in determining whether or not Lohan still has the power to entertain.”

But The Wall Street Journal says — bottom line — one show won’t determine whether Lohan is really back or not.

“ … Lohan is at the point in her career where every move she makes is considered a comeback attempt.”
