The owner of the two ring-tailed lemurs said he believes someone cut the lock on their cage in his backyard in an attempted robbery; the animals are worth about $2500 each.   He was allowed to take the monkeys back home with him after he caught one of the lemurs.  Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation caught the other after it jumped onto a police car. The owner said he was licensed to own the exotic pets, but one of the policemen on scene told local reporters they were going to double check that. "We have called out fwc to make sure he is licensed, inspect the cages to make sure that their integrity hasn't been compromised because of a possible attempted burglary." http://www.wmbfnews.com/ According to the owner, his Lemurs are normally friendly animals, but they did scratch the two-year old neighbor girl as she and her mother were getting out of their car. The owner said they acted like that because... “They were scared, that’s it. A lot of people were chasing them, a lot of lights, they were scared.” The toddler was treated for the scratch at the scene and was said to be in good spirits afterwards. Authorities said the owner would not face any charges if he had the proper permits to own the exotic animals.
