Learn how to Use a Shaving Oil
See how the experts do it.
Hi I’m Pirooz co-founder of the Grooming Lounge. Today, I’m showing you how to achieve the perfect shape. In the next segment I’m going to teach you about shave oils and how that could be beneficial to your morning shave. Basically, what a shave oil is, is an oil that doesn’t penetrate into the skin. It stays on the surface and it oxidizes. This particular oil has a combination of avocado, eucalyptus and metal foam.
And what the metal foam does, blend it with these ingredients, it oxidizes the beard, it helps create slip. It gives you a smooth surface to work with. It actually prevents you from razor drag or dragging your razor which we’re going to get into in a second and it goes on clear. You could use this to your cheek goatys which I’m going to show you at the end. You can use this to just have a quick shave and if you need to, if you’re in a hurry in the morning and you need to rush out of the house the best thing that you use is a shave oil.
So this is very, very simple what you do is you apply a few drops of the shave oil just like this and you’ll notice that— and this is called the Beard Master shave oil. Now this shave oil is a little different because this was created on the floor of a barbershop. It took about 26 formulations to get this right and it works on every skin type. So I want to take the shave oil here and I’m going to work it into beard. Pushing it through my beard and I’m going to come closer to the camera and when I come closer you’ll notice that my beard hair is lifting up little, by little, by little, by little.
You’ll start to notice it a little bit more so whatever that was chilled and was laying down and relaxing. Now it is starting to lift up, little by little by little and that’s going to make it a lot easier when I take my passes with my razor. The shave oil can be used individually or it can be cocktailed with shave cream. The first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to show you how to use a shave oil individually and I’m going to do it on my, the right side of my beard so watch we need some hot water, okay. Just like this and I’m going to put my razor in a 90° angle, okay.
If I put it at a 45 or if I use my— move my razor around like it’s race care, not only I’m going to cut myself but I’m going to create drag. So 90° watch this, I’m just using a shave oil, look how easy this is. Look I can keep going up and down, up and down. It doesn’t even hurt. I don’t feel a thing, okay.
Now watch I can come back and go up, okay. So you see how easy it is to use a shave oil and you see how smooth my face feels because I’m showing you and you’ll notice that I don’t have any shave cream on it, okay. It goes on clear like I said it creates a smooth surface and because I did it in a 90° angle watch I am taking a proper pass going with the grain, okay.
When I teach guys how to shave, they usually say I’m going down and then up or up and never down. There’s no such thing as down or up. You’re going either with the grain that means with the direction of hair growth. That’s what we advise you to do first and after your done going with the grain then if you’re skin allows and it’s prepared for or it’s used to going close then you go against the grain so you see how easy it is with the shave oil.
What I’m going to do now is I’m going to cocktail a shave cream with the shave oil.
