Sasha Miller: Best known for its blend of Punk, Metal and at times Hip-Hop, Vans Warped Tour has become one of the biggest selling concert tours in all of North America, certainly -- certainly one of the longest running.
Hey, welcome to WatchMojo. I am your host Sasha. Today we are going to find out the little bit more about Warped Tour. Created in 1995, Kevin Lyman got the idea while working on various skateboard shows. He got the name Warped after TransWorld published Warp Magazine, a short-lived publication that covered surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and music.
Well, Van then setup Warped Tour city to city. This is usually around ten stages, and in recent years up to 100 bands have performed in any one city. Each band plays up to half-an-hour, and several bands playing at the same time on the various stages. Stages are setup to insure that the music from one stage isn't going to disrupt another on going performance.
Warped Tour is not just a musical festival, there are usually a half place for skaters and bikers, as well as dozens of booth dedicated to the bands, music labels, clothing lines and non-profit organizations among others. The bands will usually retreat to their respective times after they perform, to meet fans and sign autographs. The Warped Tour has become a huge resource for up coming bands, to promote themselves for their potential audience. By creating smaller stages giving away freebies and talking to fans, a lesser know event can kind of put themselves from obscurity to popularity.
How many years have you been coming to Warped Tour now?
Audience: This is my 4th year, not consecutive year, but I have been four years now.
Audience: 13 years, yes, I live in Cornwall, and I come every year.
