Transcript
For the wild life of the Zambezi Basin, time is running out. Man is threatening its very existence. As the human population increases and makes further in-roads into the world, the domain of the animals diminishes. This giant river basin supports 20 million people. Angola, Mozambique, Botswana, Tanzania, Namibia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia, all have claims to its potential for hydroelectric power, agriculture and tourism. But the conflict between development and conservation has to be rationalized to prevent man’s needs disrupting a system that’s prevailed for thousands of years, already the face of the black rhino that signal the serious disruption of the natural order. Its numbers have been decimated. Only a few hundred remain in the basin. To address this problem, the Zambezi states with the help of the United Nations Environment Program have produced a unique action plan for the Zambezi river system.
