This is Perna and I am going to be talking to you today about Jessica Harp. She is a young, talented singer, song writer and musician. She is a huge fan of Patty Griffin and Ryan Adams and she also likes Hanson a lot. She ended up releasing an Indie album in 2002 called 'Preface' and she hoped it would get her some kind of recognition because, as she was going up in her teen years, it was really hard for her to get that.
Her fans couldn't stop expressing how amazed they were with her vocal talents. Especially with the fact that she played acoustic Guitar and it's all that she had to back her up with the vocals and it was very creative. It wasn't your tip of country type of music. She met Michelle Branch who was currently her best friend. She jumped along on Michelle's tour and became her backup singer.
In 2004, Jessica Harp got a deal with a major country record label, in Fantasy. Now, she really wanted this deal, because unlike other record companies, they were willing to give her the creative freedom that she wanted to record this album, so she is one her way driving up to Tennessee, she gets a call on her cell phone from her best friend, Michelle Branch and Branch says, "Don't find the dotted line now because it's a different record label than mine and if you sign it, our contracts are not going to be the same, our managers may never let us work together ever again." So Jessica decides maybe she is right, she turn her car around, drives up to LA to meet Branch and soon enough, they formed a duo called The Wreckers which is basically country pop rock acoustic based but they have really got harmonies and it's so much soulful as well.
Harp was born and raised in Kansas City, but she is currently residing in Nashville, so she can support the albums, 'Stand Still, Look Pretty' which she released with Michelle Branch as The Wreckers.
