For a limited time you could be the lucky winner of a free divorce... “Valentine’s Day usually means, flowers candy gifts and oh yea love too right? that’s a part of Valentine’s Day. But an attorney in Michigan, get this, is gving away a free divorce on Valentine’s Day to the couple with the best break-up story.” (video via KTVK) Walter Bentley III who hails in Southfield Michigan says he came up with the misery contest while talking to one of his students. “She was having a divorce party to celebrate her divorce and I thought about Valentine’s Day and said hey why not help someone move on to that independence on Valentine’s Day.” (video via WDIV) Free Divorces on Valentine’s Day may be a new business venture for Mr. Bentley and his law firm but according to the Huffington Post he should have started this a long time ago. “Valentine's Day may be an occasion for sweethearts to exchange gifts, but it has increasingly become a time for divorce, according to a new study... ‘Over the past two years we've seen an average increase of 40 percent in the number of requests for divorce lawyers around Valentine's Day...’” But February don’t feel too bad ... According to pyschologyytoday.com January is actually divorce month. “According to the courts, January is the month when most divorces are filed. It may be because the holidays are over or that people want a fresh start at the New Year. Some couples who've been planning to break up choose to avoid disrupting their families during the holidays.” But for those who still love love, and being in love - there’s hope. The Telegraph spoke with Harry Benson who wrote a report about divorce in this day and age and here’s what he discovered. “There is no statistical evidence to back up the ‘7 year itch’” “The biggest message is that marriage is incredibly consistent and predictable once you get to 10 years.” “Divorce rates for today’s couples are beginning to look like those for the couples who got married in the early 70s...
