The man convicted of killing Beatle John Lennon has been denied parole once again. New York officials say Mark David Chapman showed quote “callous disregard for the sanctity of human life.”

SKY NEWS : “Mark Chapman shot the musician outside his home in 1980, serving 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.”

HLN : “He'll remain in protective custody, it is in a single person cell. He's allowed to leave three hours a day. He's applied for a program to spend more time with his family.”


Every two years since 2000 he’s come up for parole. And this marks the seventh time Chapman’s been denied. From the BB C, which has the comments of the parole board’s deciding member:

“Mr. Chapman’s release at this time would undermine respect for the law and tend to trivialise the tragic loss of life you caused with this cold and calculated crime.”

The last time Chapman came up for parole — in 2010 — the board had a similar diagnosis, saying he “displayed [disregard] for the norms of our society and the sanctity of human life”

At the time, Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono had urged against Chapman’s release.

Chapman is 57. He’s expected to appear before the parole board again August of 2014.
