Bombers struck Monday at Israeli Embassy personnel in the capitals of India and Georgia. The New York Times explains

 

“The wife of an Israeli defense envoy to New Delhi was hurt along with several other people when her car was destroyed by an explosive device placed on it by a motorcyclist at a red light. In Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, a similar device was discovered on the car of a local staff member of the Israeli Embassy, but was defused by the police.”

 

 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Tehran of being behind the bombs, calling Iran “the largest exporter of terrorism in the world.” Al Jazeera has Iran’s reaction .

 

“Iran denies any involvement in the attacks, but in recent months the tension between the two countries has only increased. Iran blames Israel for the killing of several of its nuclear scientists.”

 

The Washington Post points out one of the bombings used the exact same methods as the attacks that killed an Iranian scientist last month.

 

“The attack ... bore eerie similarities to the Jan. 11 killing of Iranian nuclear chemist Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan … The scientist was killed in an explosion after an unknown assailant on a motorcycle slapped a magnetic bomb on his car as he commuted to work.”

 

Israeli newspaper Haaretz says, because of these similarities, an Israeli military response seems unlikely.

 

“...if, as is widely believed, Israel is behind a recent series of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists in Tehran, government officials presumably knew that Iranian revenge attacks were likely and took that possibility into account. … Monday's attacks were still limited enough that they didn't violate the ‘rules of the game.’”

 

RT explains the bombings have to be seen through a broader context -- the international sanctions taken against the Iranian nuclear program.

 

“And this tit-for-tat statement does increase that tension that already exists and it is this context that such carbomb incidents as today will be scrutinized and the implications looked at.”

 

According to The Associated Press, an Iranian bomber blew off his legs and wounded other people Tuesday in Bangkok. His targets weren’t immediately known.
