Male: We would like to welcome Lorie and her dermatologist Dr. Helen Fincher.
Thank you both for being here.
Helen: Thank you.
Male: So fill us in on rosacea. I know such a common problem.
Helen: It really is a very common problem. It’s an inflammatory disorder of the skin that commonly affects fair skin women especially between the ages of 30 and 50 but it can affect anyone and anytime. It consist of redness, broken capillaries, flushing and acne bumps and it’s aggravated by stress, sunlight and then lots of good things in life like exercise, alcohol spicy foods, hot coffee.
Male: That’s pretty much everything. So it’s sort of a continuum.
Helen: Yes indeed.
Male: It can be just basically flushing to actually having more of that fields kind of --
Male: But the most important question, what do we have new as far as a treatment.
Helen: We have a lot of things starting with topical prescription medications that deal with the inflammation. We have oral antibiotics that also help with inflammation and then we have some amazing light based and laser treatments like intense pulse light therapy that we use a lot in our practice.
Male: And I think you’re going to do that right now.
Helen: Indeed. Are we ready?
Male: What? I’m ready for a treatment.
Helen: We’re going to use some protective eye wear.
Helen: Yes indeed. IPL was intense pulse light and it’s a broad based light treatment. This device is the affirmed XPL which is great because it has cooling of the skin to help with patient comfort indeed.
Male: So this shouldn’t have too much discomfort.
Helen: No. And very little redness after the treatment that is why we love it.
Male: And with all -- you’re targeting a certain part of the skin that you’re trying to hit -- to treat this rosacea.
Helen: And this one treats redness. It also is a total facial rejuvenation treatment so it targets melanin and collagen, it helps with fine lines.
Male: Alright doc, fire that thing up.
Helen: That’s awesome, alright, turn your head Lorie. Okay, I’m going to count to three and you’re going to feel a little bit of a snap and maybe see a timely flush. One, two, three, one, two, three, how’s that? One, two, three.
Male: And you can work and talk at the same time. Now she is going to see a change after one treatment but ideally, she wants to get more than one treatment.
Helen: We recommend three to five treatments as a series at three to four-week intervals but usually, you should be able to see result factor seven to ten days.
Male: Alright, I’m going to let you focus on your work. I want to thank both of you so much.
