Installing Carpet Trim by HomeAdditionPlus.com
Here, we have a metal transition strip where the carpet is beginning to separate from it. The carpet is in otherwise great condition so we are going to try to repair this today.
Hi! I am Mark Donovan from HomeAddtionPlus.com and today, I am going to install a wooden transition strip over the existing metal transition strip to dress up this area. So the first thing I want to do is I am going to measure the width of the door frame and transition that measurement to the wood transition board. We are now going to go ahead and trim the edge of the wood transition.
Now that we have trimmed the board to the length or the width of the doorframe, I have positioned it in place. Then I am going to make a small notch in it, the thickness of the doorstop and basically enable me to take the transition strip and slide it forward to approximately halfway across the width of the doorstep. Now that we have cut out the notches for the doorstop, slid the wood transition piece into place and it is covering nicely now about half inch of the seam from where the carpet connects to the metal texture. So, at this point, we are ready to screw this down to the floor. We will put a little wood filler in the edges but before we go any of that, we will pre-stain this wood to make it to the color of the doorframe itself.
So, we have stained the wood transition piece. I put in most of the screws so all we need to do is tighten this one out. And all that is left is to put some wood paddy fillers over the screw holes that are recessed and we are all set. So, that it is! It took us maybe 30 minutes to this wood transition project.
