Hi! I’m Joe Wise, owner of Buildwise Construction in Orlando, Florida. And today, we’re going to go over on how to install a garbage disposal.
As you can hear this one, it’s really ready to be replaced. It’s going to take some basic tools to do that job. Well first, we’ll need a pan to collect water when we disconnect the trough. We’ll need a pair of channel locks, pencil, and old towel to lay on and catch extra water that gets away from us, hack saw or a PVC pipe cutter to redo the waste lines, plumber’s putty, a pipe wrench, screwdrivers usually flip set and common, and then we’re going to need a measuring tape, plumbing connectors like sink traps, the dishwasher tail pieces and that kind of thing. I always buy a little extra because you’ll never know what you’re going to need when you get in there.
But then again you’re dealing with household products that are chemicals. You don’t want to mix any chemicals that would be hazardous to you and also you’re going to be dealing with electrical when you disconnect the electricity from this unit. So you don’t want to shock yourself and you want to make sure you take the proper precautions to turn all electrical off and get all the water out of here before you do that.
I’ve been in the remodeling business for about 29 years and I do doors, windows, just any type of repair on a daily basis. As you can see, we’ve already got this all cleaned so we’re going to go disconnect the electricity so we don’t shock ourselves.
