That’s because, as of Sunday, the popular photo-sharing app is now blocking the photo previews on your Tweets. Last week, Instagram turned off its Twitter cards -- the feature that displays photos directly on Twitter posts. This move meant Twitter users could only see cropped, less than- perfect images. Just days later, Instagram yanked the function that showed the expanded version of a photo on a user’s Twitter post, and in its place is a link redirecting the user to the photo on Instagram’s website. So what’s Instagram’s tiff with Twitter ultimately mean for the users who seem to be caught in the middle? A writer at Mashable speculates. “Making your product look bad on a sizable chunk of social media -- and making it harder for users to view it -- is not something you do lightly. It's certainly not an ‘evolution.’ It is an act of war, or as near as such things get in the tangled web of tech and social media.” But the desire to restrict developers’ access isn’t limited to Instagram. This summer, Twitter cut off an Instagram feature allowing you to find friends through Twitter, and more recently did the same thing to Tumblr. Of this trend, a blogger for GigaOM writes , “[This] should get more media companies thinking hard about the relationship they have with Twitter. It is...a proprietary network built by a company with monetization and expansion on its mind, and your content is part of that.” And this game of tit-for-tat isn’t likely to end anytime soon. Rumors have been circulating for about month now that Twitter is gearing up to release it’s own Instagram-like app. Unnamed sources tell All Things Digital that Twitter should have the photo filters out in time for the holidays. And for evidence, look no further than Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey’s account . He recently tweeted out these pictures which appear to have undergone some sort of Instagram style filter own their own.
