How to Wear the Ladylike Trend
Whether you want to chain all your inner Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn or you’re inspired by other sophisticated women from decades past. Lady like details are always in style. Longer head line, synched in waist, corseted tops and bows made a splash on the fall 2010 runways at Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Miu Miu and Chanel. Focusing on a few key pieces like a jacket, dress and blouse, we’re going to show you how to incorporate these elegant items into your wardrobe.
It's a dream when you own a piece so timeless that it translates from one season to the next like a Hermes Birkin Bag, a Burberry Trench and a Chanel tweed jacket. But the challenge of keeping a classic modern is in the styling. On the show, we selected a jacket by Oscar de la Renta that gives the appearance of tweed that adds as a new spin with sequins. A few things to look for when you're going for the style, a box cut something that’s colorless, a cropped cozy fit, tweed bringing or piping down the front and little front pockets. Something to stay away from tweed on tweed, instead of pairing it with a traditional matching tweed skirt, freshen it up with black pants like this from Robert Rodriguez and a basic tank. So that it doesn’t get too busy and it stays youthful.
So this jacket is by Oscar de la Renta. I've got some more price friendly alternatives J. Crew, Milly and Rachel Roy on a great pieces. When wearing a classic, make sure to mix it within an aucourant piece like a textured pant cuffed up and a forward shoe, like this loafer Laredo shoe booty. This will complete your reinvasion that lady like look.
Another great lady like look is a feminine 60’s inspired dress. Higher necklines nip in waist and pleats are details that make up a more sophisticated lady like silhouette and shows off your shape. On Shaw we layered a sweet proenza schouler dress with a print C by Chloe blouse to add a pop of color. The shear pleats and leather detailing adds a more downtown vive. Instead of choosing a long sleeve dress in these cooler months layered a high collar blouse or knit turtle neck underneath. If you don’t have a dark dress this is the place to bring in your lighter florals and layered them up for fall.
In our version of lady like we did apply on the traditional pearl necklace and pop open the collar on the blouse to soften out the look. Now we finish it off with flat leather over the knee riding boot by -- to make the look feel more effortless. Also Topshop and Halston Heritage make great chic alternatives for lady like dresses.
For a final look we pair them more traditional Victorian style high neck blouse with another fun fall trend, leather shorts. Now look for a blouse with delicate features. A high neckline exaggerative bows or fun ruffles in detailing like this one from Alexander McQueen.
Now you want to contrast the femininity of the top with a harder piece on bottom or this rag and bow leather shorts. But if leather shorts aren’t for you, a leather skirt or leather pants if you're feeling daring are good alternative. A pair of tights instantly makes the look nighttime ready and keeps you cozy for fall and winter. These deceptive and naughty heels with black set detailing paired with a burgundy and leather clutch comes bound south to feminine feel and gives a little rocker edge.
Mark Jacobs, Haute Hippie and ASOS make great alternatives for an embellished elegant blouse will be the key part of your outfit. We hope these tips have inspired you to incorporate some lady like details into your wardrobe this fall. We found all these posh pieces at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills and our fabulous footwear at Endless.com. I'm Alison and thanks for watching Fabs out Too on FabSugar.
