Songbird is a media player. Kind of like iTunes but wrap the iTunes bullshit. Now, they just released the 1.0 and have a lot of new features that I like. One being is my iPod can actually sync with it now. They also said it was with the Zoon and Sasha or something like that. But I’m not sure what iPod Touch or the iPhone. So for the iPod video, it works.
Now if you click on my iPod here, you see the sync list here. You can do all your play list that you want to sync. So that’s good. They also have like options here in the tools to restore your factory default. But I haven’t tried that yet.
Now, also a good thing about this release is when your playing a song right? You play like a Christmas song. If your playing a song by Celine Dion the artist right? Over here in the side here, Music Recommendation, it has like a list of similar artists. If you click on Celine Dion then this is a similar artist to her all right? So this is good to discover like new artists, you know what I’m saying?
Now, see all the tracks that I have in the bottom of the artist? These are the tracks that are locally on my hard drive. And the ones that I don’t have, this is no tracks so I know which one I have and which one I don’t have. So that’s a good way to indicate that. Maybe I just look up and see if I like their sound. So I dig that too.
Now, if I have like the track from Mariah Carey here right? Click on it and over here there’s going to pop other songs that I have on her all right? You know what I’m saying? So if I play a song by her, it’s not going to give me a different artist for her because it’s going to recommend different things for different artists. So see like here, Beyonce, I have nothing on her right? And I want to hear what she has right? Ad I have no tracks so I have to click the icon here. And this will bring up a different tab right here. This tab will take you to “Last.fm”. Here, last.fm right? And you can sample her music on what she has right here. You see? This is her music right here on the radio channel. So that’s good to discover a new artist also using last.fm. So I dig those features.
But the one thing that I dig is the mashTape here or the mashTape. Now, you see, you’re playing a song like this of Mariah Carey, you can read her Bio and what she has done or facts and stuffs like that and also the current new on her. On Google you can see what Is the update about her And also photos, fly shows from a flicker that’s been tagged by her. You see? So that’s good too. Videos? This is what I’ve read by Youtube. Let’s see which one is her music video or whatever she has. So I dig those too. It’s already here when you’re listening to music and you’re not to Google search for anything. It’s all here. So I dig that.
One thing I don’t like about Songbird is it isn’t ingrate well with Compiz. You know, you have wobbly windows. Look at these. You see it’s no wobbly windows and it looks ugly you know. I wish they have that. And also my friend, he’s complaining that there’s no equalizer because he’s a music fanatic I guess. But other than that, they might import the in the future. But as far as this release, they don’t have any of that. Okay?
And you see, they also have this rating thing. I’m not sure, I haven’t tried that but you can rate the songs and it’ll show up in the rating list here or whatever at the highest rate that you can do.
They also have a shout cast. I don’t really use this shit but you can use it if you want to listen to radio okay? Internet radio, so that’s good too. But the one thing that I like about Songbird is this. I’ll show you. It’s SkreemR. You click right here, SkreemR here and you search for an artist right? Let’s say Dido right? Now this will take you to a SkreemR website all right? And the SkreemR website if you don’t know what it is, it is basically indexing Google just for MP3 or any kind of music format all right? Now they don’t host it but they index it using Google. So I like about that is you can listen to the music like it’s locally. i can save. See they have Dido right? All these songs right and these are the list that’s coming from this webpage here in SkreemR. See all this list in here? It’s the same but this right here is more convenient because you can see the details and you don’t have to look up and down the page. So I dig about that. All you r shit here, you have the title, you have the artist.
Now, these are the file that’s on the internet and the RIAA cannot track any of these because it’s not hosted by an individual. It’s all scattered all over the internet right? And this is not filed sharing, it is direct download. You know what I’m saying? Like someone uploaded to the webpage and you’ve Google index that, then SkreemR will index that because they are using Google. So you’re not going to get caught if you download from this place. You know what I’m saying? But that’s up to you. I’m not telling you to go and do this but you cold do it you know without getting caught.
So if I play a song right here right? If I double click on this and it is playing, right? Turn the song a little bit. See, it’s playing right? It’s playing like it’s locally on your hard drive if you have fast connection you don’t see any lag or nothing. And if you like the song, you ca download it actually. You don’t just but anything because you can download it. And that’s actually what I use it for to get on my media all right?
Now SkreemR doesn’t have all the artist or all this thing right? But that’s mainly my bread and butter when I use this as I use this for like downloading stuff. I can use P2P if I wanted to but this is the way I do it because I don’t want to go the virus and all that shit okay?
So that’s the only thing that I like. They didn’t have extensions because that’s based on Firefox, Preference here and thy have like extensions, the add-ons that you can do. That’s about it. I still need to use this program for. This is not going to replace my rhythm box. That only used for downloading and syncing with my iPod. That’s about it. If you like using this to go to a certain size that has a lot of music, then this is great for that. But as far as the browser and the music player, it’s not happening with me. Not anytime soon. You know, until they do all this litigates stuff, and then I might use it as a default player.
