Okay, we're done using the Trim Window here. Let's get rid of it. I'm just going to hit the X on this tab right here. Our Program panel is fine, still floating here in the middle. What we're going to do is open up our Slide n Slip sequence. I'm going to double-click it and there it is. My Playhead is at the beginning of our Timeline. If yours isn't, bring it to the beginning of the Timeline simply by clicking the Home key, when you're in there. Let's take a look at the scenario I've set up here. Just go ahead and hit your Spacebar and see what we've got.
I hit the Spacebar to stop and what it looks like is that this Pier_Reverse shot comes in a little too early, but it has got the correct in and out points. So really all I need to do is just slide it down the Timeline. So let's go get our Slide tool on our Toolbox. It's this icon here and your shortcut key would be the U. Let's bring it back to our clip.
So what's going to happen here is I'm going to select this clip and I'm going to start dragging to the right. I'm going to contain the in and out points that I already have on the Pier_Reverse shot, but what's going to change that Outpoint on the Reverse mid shot and the Inpoint on the GoLeave mid shot. So I'm going to go ahead and select the clip now and I'm going to start dragging to the right. And we're going to get a nifty window with four views to show us what's happening here.
The top two windows represent the In and Out points of the clip I'm dragging. The bottom two windows, the bottom left one resembles the Tail frame of the Outgoing clip and the bottom right one resembles the Head frame of the Incoming clip. When I start sliding you'll see those start changing.
So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to look for a visual queue to match this up. I'm going to look at the bottom right window, to where my jogger starts turning. I have Snapping on, it's kind of interfering with the slides, I'm going to turn it off by hitting the S key on my keyboard. I'm going to keep sliding to the right. I think, right about here is what's looking good, because the top right window is where our jogger is starting to turn away and the bottom right window, the jogger is starting to turn away.
On the bottom left, the jogger is having her last moment looking at the water and it looks like that in the top left window. So everything looks like it matches here, I'm going to let this clip go right here and let's see what this edit looks like. I hit the Spacebar to stop and I think we've got some decent continuity out of that. So that's what you want to do with the Slide tool. It doesn't knock anything out of sync on your Timeline, all it does is move the In and Out points surrounding those two edits of the clip that you selected.
Alright. That takes care of the Slide tool. Now I'm going to show you the Slip tool which I think is one of the most advanced tools in your Toolbox. Go ahead and grab your Slip tool, it's over here in the Toolbox, and the icon is these two double arrows with the lines surrounding them. I'm going to select it and I'm going to come to the second group of clips I have on my Timeline, I'm going to put my Playhead in front of it and I'm going to hit the Spacebar to play, I'm going to show you what kind of problem we're having here.
Alright. If you couldn't tell that middle clip definitely, definitely has the wrong In point there. It's in the right spot, timing wise but it's just not synced up with the actions before or around it. So let's grab our Slip tool and let me show you what this thing does. Select your clip and start dragging to the right. In the top left we have the Tail frame of the Outgoing clip and in the top right we have the Head frame of the Incoming clip. The bottom two views are our In and Out points on the clip that we have selected. This is what we want to slip.
So what's going to happen is we're now moving this clip in the Timeline, like we did with the Slide tool. We're just moving the In and Out points of that particular clip. So I'm going to slide to the right. That's obviously the wrong direction. I'm actually going to slide it to the left. I'm going to use the bottom left window to match up the action where our jogger is staring out to water and she is directly staring out.
Okay that's about right, but then on the right side we see that the jogger has turned too much to leave. So if I slide to the right, I think, right about here, a slight gesture with the jogger leaving on the right side and the left side, she is still looking out to the water. I'm going to let go this clip right here. I'm going to bring my Playhead to the beginning of that edit, I'm going to hit the Spacebar and let's see what we have.
I don't know about you, but I think our continuity is identical to the group of clips before that. I think, we have accomplished learning the Slip tool. So I'm finished showing you all of the basic tools in the Toolbox, the only one I haven't gone over is our Rate Stretch tool which is a little bit more advanced and this has to do with accelerating and decelerating time.
Now let's go over to our Project panel and revisit the Pier_Sequence that we've started. I'm going to take our Program panel, I'm going to put it back where it belongs. I'm going to go down to my Timeline, I'm going to hit the Forward Slash(/) to maximize my view on the Timeline and I'm going to go ahead and finish a segment of this Timeline the way I want to. You can dive into the Chapter 04 and Insert Overlay, Cut In, whatever angles you want, and also make the segment as long or short as you feel like.
