CARTER OOSTERHOUSE: I’m Carter Oosterhouse, and this is your GMC Trade Secret.
Ready to give your front porch a fresh new look? Come with me.
Now, there are so many ways to bring new life to your front porch and increase the visual appeal to your home. Now, I love using potted plants around the door, because you get to work color and smell into your design.
Now, your yard landscape has design, and so should your porch. So draw inspiration from your landscaping and your home so that the porch décor works with other elements around it. All right, let’s try a few different looks here and see what works.
All right. So with the topiaries and the succulents down below and the right angles on the pots, we have more of a clean-line architectural feel to the space. It’s amazing what a couple of plants will do.
Let’s try something else. All right. So now we added a lot of flowers and plants that have a lot of greenery but are a lot fuller than the last ones. We have a lot of – we have gardenias. We have jasmine. We even have herbs. And, of course, those are edible, which I love adding herbs to anything. But, you know, the best part about this is that when your guests come, they’re going to get an instant smell when they step on your porch.
Well, this looks great. But now let’s try adding some color. All right. And remember, when you’re bringing in color with flowers, don’t forget that you can bring in a lot of color with the pots too.
All right. So now you can see we’ve added in a lot of beautiful plants that bring in a ton of color; not only the plants, but of course the pots bring in a lot of color too. And you can see we’ve added different layers and what I like to call the waterfall, where you actually start high on the back side and basically tier your way down as you work out. And it looks fantastic.
Now, if you need a way to enhance the exterior of your home, just try a few potted plants around your door, because they can go a long way.
I’m Carter Oosterhouse, and this has been another GMC Trade Secret.
