How to Use Container Planters in Your Garden
Rhiannon Ally: Plants can make all the difference in your outdoor space but believe it or not you don’t need a big yard to take advantage of nature. Lifestyle expert Mar Jennings shows us how we can improve our moods and our curve appeal with perfect planters. Hi Mar.
Mar Jennings: There is a container for everyone.
Rhiannon Ally: Oh I love this even if you only have that little terrace of your apartment you can have a garden.
Mar Jennings: That’s absolutely and let’s show an example here. This is a larger container so this is perfect when you want and introduce your own little patch of gardening is right here, you could change this out. Here are some Grape Hyacinths, some wonderful pansies and what will happen in the summer I’ll change this out and I’ll put some wonderful herbs here.
Rhiannon Ally: Great idea! Can I plant a tomato in there?
Mar Jennings: Absolutely a tomato for great idea. You can also put any kind of vegetables in there. Lettuce is wonderful I love to do lettuce and containers as well, great idea. But you can also expand on that idea. I love to put evergreens in containers. Here is a dwarf pine Dutch and what’s wonderful about this is that it does grow very, very slowly and it’s perfect for a container. It adds great drama and interest to a front door or walkway or even a back stoop.
Its great architectural interest and you can’t count for many with annuals and that’s what I’ve done here. Here’s a box wood and again here are the Grape Hyacinths so you have a little bit of the best of both worlds, something that’s long lasting and something that’s seasonal as well.
Rhiannon Ally: What should people look for when they’re looking for a container?
Mar Jennings: You want to find great interesting containers that really speak to you. There’s so many out there and a lot of people are intimidated with heavy containers but nothing makes these great Fosamax containers that are very easy to move around.
Rhiannon Ally: Can you put one of this inside the home?
Mar Jennings: Absolutely, if you did do that you want to make sure that you going to pay attention to it and you have to water it. It has to have plenty of suns so you want to follow the directions of whatever the label might say for the plant that you’re putting in there. But go with perennials and instead of what just doing annuals a Hydrangea is wonderful of putting it the container.
Rhiannon Ally: A splash of colors got to be beautiful.
Mar Jennings: Box with always a home run and go ahead and shape them an interesting shapes as well very versatile like.
Rhiannon Ally: Okay I don’t have a terrace on my condo so can I take this one.
Mar Jennings: You want to try with something little small? How about we give you something that’s for container. I think this is more your space you can sell it there.
Rhiannon Ally: So I can handle this one instead. Thanks Mar.
Mar Jennings: You’re very welcome.
