Audra Lowe: Now Rhiannon and Mar have an unusual way to keep those windows cleaner and your skillets from rusting. Take a look.

Rhiannon Ally: Thanks Audra. Who doesn't love a great cup of coffee in the morning. So pretty much everyone has coffee filters laying around the house, but did you know you can use them for much more than just making your coffee. Who better to show us than Mar Jennings? Hello!

Mar Jennings: Welcome to my kitchen.

Rhiannon Ally: Thank you. It's beautiful.

Mar Jennings: There are a variety of different ways we can use coffee filters, and they're pretty inexpensive. And yet, we're making coffee every morning, we're enjoying that, but what if there was other things that we can use coffee filters for? And there are. Let's go ahead and start. How many times do we use the microwave and it makes such a mess. There are spills, pop up everything.

Rhiannon Ally: Everyday.

Mar Jennings: But when you put a bowl in there or a plate, why don't you go ahead and use a coffee filter to just put it simply on top? That will guarantee that if there is going to be a spill, it will stay, and then coffee filter will absorb it.

Rhiannon Ally: Yeah it's a little bit thicker than a paper towel, so that -- it's upon dip down.

Mar Jennings: Great idea. Right. And if you have a cast iron skillet, you know one thing that you want to be concerned about, if it ever gets to point that it can rust, it will really damage the overall experience when you're cooking with it.

Rhiannon Ally: So do you clean it with the coffee filter?

Mar Jennings: Well, no you don't clean it. I have another tip for that. But the best thing to do is put a coffee filter in you cast iron skillet. You can notice right here, it's absorbing the grease, and it also prevents it from rusting as well.

Rhiannon Ally: Wow!

Mar Jennings: And that's really important when you have a great cast iron skillet. The best way to clean it is with a little bit of olive oil, that gives it a really great luster and protects it as well.

Rhiannon Ally: Wonderful.

Mar Jennings: So that is a bonus for you. How about cleaning windows?

Rhiannon Ally: Okay.

Mar Jennings: I hate cleaning windows. I could never get it right. It gets streaks. But when you want to clean a window, you want to make sure that it's completely clean. A coffee filter is completely lint-free, so it's the perfect solution for cleaning windows, and I use it all the time. I go through them all the time.

Rhiannon Ally: That's very funny.

Mar Jennings: Great idea. And protecting your china. You know, we have great china. We want to make sure it last for generations.

Rhiannon Ally: You don't want to scratch it.

Mar Jennings: You don't want to scratch it. How about putting coffee filter in between each and every piece? That will really help protect our china as well.

Rhiannon Ally: Okay if you just have other nice plates or dishes?

Mar Jennings: Any china, any plates, if you put a coffee filter in between, it's a really good idea.

Rhiannon Ally: Okay.

Mar Jennings: How about if you want to polish your shoes or your boots?

Rhiannon Ally: Oh! I don't want to.

Mar Jennings: I know, coffee filter, nor should you. A coffee filter is a really great solution because you can go ahead and put your fingers right in between the coffee filter, and that will protect your hands and you don't get it on your fingers. Because there's nothing worse than having dirt or polish in between the nails.

Rhiannon Ally: Yes.

Mar Jennings: Okay, that would be a bad thing. But here's a really great idea. And it's one of my favorites. I have tons of terracotta pots. And you know I'm a gardener, and I love to use my terracotta pots. What I found is that each and every time I fill the terracotta pots the soil would leak right through. It would make a real mess. And that's a pretty big hole.

Rhiannon Ally: Yeah.

Mar Jennings: What is the solution? Of course, a coffee filter.

Rhiannon Ally: A coffee filter.

Mar Jennings: That will guarantee that the soil stay in place and you won't have that mess. So another great idea for coffee filters to use it for your terracotta pots.

Rhiannon Ally: Wonderful ideas. And of course you can pick up coffee filters anywhere.

Mar Jennings: Anywhere, right?

Rhiannon Ally: And it's so cheap.

Mar Jennings: You will never look at the coffee filter quite the same way again, right?
