Icyou Health Tips Using A Treadmill Properly Brought to you by: ESAC, East Shores Athletic Club
Kristen Kennedy (NASM Certified Personal Trainer): It's very important because a lot of us we don't have the best posture and it helps to really set your posture correctly when you're on a machine. We have a lot of people that say have a rounded back or forward head. So when you're walking you really need to set that up. (Keep an upright posture)
So I'm going to go up on the machine and hit quick start and I'm going to show you an example of not having the best posture with a treadmill. So see I'm walking and I'm just like this. A lot of people tend to have a forward lean with this and their shoulders are just down. You're actually not using everything that you can do instead of walking to -- pulling your shoulders back and just pumping with the arms. And you're burning more calories this way because you're moving your body a bit more.
Some people I see, they do this to kind of check their heart rate because you see that there's handles on here to check your heart rate. They come here but then they start leaning like this and they're not -- they're barely, they're not even using their upper body, they're using their lower body just like this, kind of leaning into it, as well.
Then you just got to make sure, you set it tall, you're walking heel to toe on your feet and you're just kind of eyes on the horizon or on the TV, if you have it on TV.
