How to use a chop saw?
Dean: Hey, I'm Dean.
Derek: I'm Derek and we’re from DIY Networks Indoors Out.
Dean: And we’re going to give you a few simple tips on how to use a chop saw.
Derek: Now, chop saw is a must-have tool for any type of detailed carpentry work.
Dean: Carpentry work like building a deck, framing even finish work, and most importantly you can use it yourself.
Derek: That’s true and chop saw has cost about maybe $100.00 for a base cost, that’s the saw and the base, or you can go as high as $800.00 for a saw with a sawing table and wheels.
Dean: Or you could rent one for about $35.00 a day, or $140 a week.
Derek: $140 a week?
Dean: $140 a week.
Derek: And if you’re going to spend 140 bucks you might as well buy one.
Dean: Now to set up a chop saw, there are two sturdy sawhorses, put your base on the sawhorses and in the base of the chop saw there are holes for screws or nails to secure that to the sawhorse.
Derek: And it’s always a good idea to have a couple of extra sawhorses, so you can put them on either end of your chop saw when you’re cutting longer pieces of wood. You move it back and forth. Those sawhorses keep that wood supported and that way you’ll be safe as you cut it.
Dean: Speaking of safety.
Derek: Oh, yes.
Dean: Make sure you have on your safety glass. This is your only set of eyes. One of the best things about chop saw is it has an angle cut on the base. Now, it’s time to cut. We’ll make sure the wood is tight up against the guide, bring down the saw, let it do all the work and release. You know this is a powerful tool, so make sure you’re very careful.
