Hi! I am Jim Tiner, professional paper hanger, and we are going to be talking about estimating. Estimating is important to bring good numbers to your dealer; you are not going to be doing the actual estimating but bringing good numbers. So let's talk about that. First, measure the floor, you don't have to measure the wall, you want the length and the width of your room, all of the area that you are doing. In this particular case, it's 6 feet by 8 feet. You don't have to be so precise about the numbers, make it easy and bring the height of the area that you are doing. In this case, it says 92 inches, but 96 is 8 feet, make it 8 feet.
So, I am going to recommend that you do not deduct for windows and doors. You take a good floor plan measurement with you to the dealer and they will estimate the needed amount of wallpaper. So here was the area that we just measured; 6 feet by 8 feet and the ceiling height of 8 feet. Those would be the numbers that you take to the dealer. If it's a room, let's say, 10x12, you have a 10 foot wall, a 12 foot wall and a ceiling height may be again of 8 feet. This is all you need to do, this is all the numbers you need to take with you to your dealer for him to give you a decent estimate. Again, you don't have to mark in the doors or the windows, don't deduct for him. A little more paper is better than not enough.
Next, we are going to talk about checking your order, once it comes in.
