Gord: At this time of year, Aphids become a real problem. So we brought in Jessica, a bug lady. Hey Jessica?
Jessica: Hey Gord.
Gord: Now we have got Aphids all over this hop and I was still hoping you have a miracle cure for me.
(Laughing)
Jessica: Well in did I do.
Gord: Sounds good.
Jessica: Provided by nature. Aphids serious problem of hops are easily devour by lady bugs. And now lady bugs are available for application in to our gardens to control the aphids and clean up the aphids with in a matter of week.
Gord: So those cute little bugs are actually may eat up and devour all of those green poor aphids?
Jessica: Yes they do.
Gord: Perfect. Well now, this is only the question I get, if I got a lady bug on here, is not just going to fly away?
Jessica: Well the thing is with lady bugs is they eat a lot so less is more. You want to play a few lady bugs to a plant like this, because otherwise they compete each other and they are going to take off.
Gord: Okay.
Jessica: So if you put just a few one, they will have recognized that there is enough food source for all of them and they will stick around.
Gord: Okay. So something like this, we have got lots of aphids around here, how would I apply the lady bugs?
Jessica: Well the first thing with lady bugs is that they want to have something to drink when they come out of the bag. So simple as using thank you. Simple as just a getting some water on the plants. You can use your hose or you could use a little mister
Gord: Okay,
Jessica: Fine whatever the case maybe, you just have to give them a little something to drink.
Gord: So it takes it, we are doing this in a biting hot sun probably it would be a better idea to do it in a cooler time of the day then?
Jessica: Absolutely. Evening is the best. It gives the chance lady bugs enough something to drink, they nest down for the evening and then first thing in the morning they are going to have there lady bugs snack.
(Laughing and Voice Overlap)
Jessica: So you can see we have a few here,
Gord: Oh, yes, just a few.
Jessica: And, we are just going to gently let them crawl on to the plant. You want to help me out?
Gord: Sure. There some quite few in here.
Would this lady bugs hang around for year after year and this a one shot deal? Can they make it trough the cold weather?
Jessica: Yes. These are lady bug native to native to Canada and so they will not this particular beetle but what we are looking for is that is there following generations will imprint on this area and will reproduce and continue to come back year after year.
Gord: Great well Jessica once again, wealth of information now let us put the rest of these lady bugs on.
