Host: How do I start to lose weight?
Sarah Alligood: Well, to lose weight what you have to do is to expend more calories than you take in. So you take in calories by eating food, you expend calories. First of all, your body just expends them naturally just to keep yourself alive. All the different functions that go on in your body like your heart pumping, that takes a significant amount of calories, but also on top of that, your physical activities. So moving your body around, going for walks, things of that sort are going to increase the amount of calories that you expend and also, it is really important when you are getting started to identify some small stuffs. Things are going to be easy for you to do and you know that you will be successful at them so that when you do succeed you are going to feel great and you are going to be motivated to keep going and make more changes. For example, it might be as simple as deciding to take the stairs instead of the elevator at work.
