Jim’s Garden Tip is brought you by Zamzows. Nobody knows like Zamzows.
Today I am going to show you how to transplant our seedlings into larger pots. So that in four to six weeks, we can transplant them into the garden.
Now that we’ve taken our seedlings out of their little nursery green house, it is time to remove them very carefully and put them into larger pots. I like to use a Popsicle stick or a tongue depressor. Just go in gently and lift up without breaking the roots that will loosen the seedling and then if you’ll just grab a hold of one very , very gently, you can see the root system there and I just like to use my finger as a dibble and just make a hole right there in the pot.
Next, lower the plant gently down in there and I like to usually go down fairly deep because roots will form all along that stem and pack it in gently.
Do not forget to label your flat because after you’ve planted these Sweet 100s and you start planting Early Girls, Big Boys, Better Boys and other varieties, you don’t want to get them mixed up in your garden.
Now it is time to water your plants in. It is really important that you water them very gently because at this early stage, they will wash out real quick and you don’t want to put about a cup of water in this size of the pot, her pot.
Join me next time and we’ll go right out into the garden and I will show you how to prepare your soil for early spring planting.
