Laura: Hey Dick, this fine here just press signaling. I do not know what signaling is I bet they do not either. What is it?
Dick: Right, signaling involves different methods so that people can find us if we are lost or if we are in trouble.
Laura: Right.
Dick: You want me to show you?
Laura: Sure, it would be great.
Dick: Different signaling devices include things like a mirror. Now if you are carrying a Brunton compass with a mirror you are all set. You use it to put a image of the reflection on the back of your fingers held it arms length holding a V and you can use that V just like you would a gun sight.
And so, you move it back and fort across the horizon to catch peoples attention. If you happen to see a boat or a plane then you pin point it and hold it on them with a little bit of a wiggle so that it flashes back and fort.
A flashing mirrors in the bush means people are in trouble. Then smoke is another one. In here you prepare fires with dry wood and then on top of them you put green branches. Now these are spaced out at intervals and three always means danger or trouble.
We can also use orange garbage bags in the same way again spacing those out so they can be seen from the air. And if you have a whistle and I hope you do because you can get very, very horse quickly shouting what you use are three loud, long whistles spaced at intervals. And these are the signaling methods to make sure that you are going to found in the bush.
