How to Shop for Mother's Day Flowers
Audra Lowe: Mother’s Day is this weekend and you know the clock is ticking on what you got to get mom, right. So Jeannette Pavini is here she’s showing us an affordable way to shop for flowers and it’s all in today’s Better Ways to Save.
Jeannette Pavini: Flowers can cost a pretty penny if you order them through a delivery service. Price is average around $50 for a delivered arrangement but you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost. Most major cities have flower markets and you can buy cut flowers, flowering plants wreaths and vases at wholesale prices. $25 at a flower market could buy and armload of flowers and you can get ideas on flower arranging at the market too.
Now some market sell in bulk perfect to split the flowers and the cost with a friend, and if you don’t have a market near you look for bouquets, plants and trees at your local nursery. Typically a plant will cost much less than cut flowers and last longer. You can create your own bouquets by buying different bunches of flowers at the store and rearranging them into one large vase and the single rose in a vase can also make a very big statement.
And if you live too far to present flowers yourself, make sure to check online deliveries service for coupons and coupon quotes and compare prices. Be sure to check with the online guarantee you want to make sure that the flowers will last at least a week and will be delivered on time.
Audra Lowe: Alright mom so you got your flowers to celebrate, now you can get even more props with your adorable kid. If your child is between the ages of 3 months and 6 years old, you can enter the 2010 Parents Magazine cover contest. All you have to do is upload your photos on bettertv.com. Ten finalists are going to be brought to New York City for a professional photo shoot and the winner is going to appear on the November cover.
