Jill Davie: The next time you are throwing a party, consider setting up a buffet table. It's a really elegant and beautiful way of displaying food. And with a few props, some linens, and just some building blocks you can setup an elegant buffet in no time at all.
Now here I have a basket, I just found it laying around the house, going to flip it over. And this is a box full of who knows what, and what I am trying to do is create different heights. So I have a glass brick here, and this is just a bowl I found in the kitchen, so all of these are different heights. We are just going to spread them kind of around the table at different places, there we go. I think I am pretty comfortable with that.
So I already have my initial table cloth down, I have my building blocks, and here I have a curtain. Now I like to use light weight curtains, but you can also pick up a piece of fabric from a fabric store or perhaps you already have some linens you want to use. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you want them to compliment each other. Okay, so see how well all these colors work together. Now I am setting up a Mediterranean theme, so I have kind of picked some colors that are going to work within that theme.
Now I am going to start draping. This is the most important part of setting up the buffet table. So the idea is to create pillows and pockets, just like that. And now we are ready for food. This beautiful plate of hummus with some crackers, stuffed cream beans, okay and stuffed pepper here. Color is really important in a buffet because you really want it to look extra nice. Then I have a large plate of khus khus. And the bigger plates, definitely you want higher, and then the smaller ones, down lower. So they are easily accessible for your guests.
The other important thing, make sure everything is really secure. The last thing you need is an accident at your party. I have a beautiful bread basket, we are just going to put that off to this side so, and this is a great tip. So if you don't have enough platters, don't worry, just use your table cloth. And not only is that a platter in of itself, but it becomes a beautiful focal point for your buffet.
Now I am going to dress up the table, and because I am doing a Mediterranean theme I have chosen to use some edible decorations, some whole artichoke. We'll just kind of place these in little pockets, and this is where the pockets and pillows come in handy in your buffet. Just going to put those around, and some vine ripe tomatoes just to dress up, beautiful. Now not only is the buffet gorgeous, but it becomes amazing centerpiece for your party.
