When the summer rolls in, there is always a lot going on in the garden. But if you are like me, one of the chores you enjoyed the least is mowing the lawn. That is why more gardeners across the country have decided that it is out with the lawn and in with the bloom.
Nancy Porter is one such gardener. She designed the lawn out of her garden but drawing on the past for the inspiration behind her New England cottage style garden.
Allen: Living out here in the country and having lots anchorage, you could have as large of garden as you want.
Female: Well physically I do not take bigger garden and handle it.
Allen: So was it maintenance that …
Nancy: Well, it is kind that I can maintain, because by the time I get through working on this one, there is a little time left
Allen: You could not possibly even think of another.
Allen: another area to garden, and if you wanted to retire the lawnmower for good.
Nancy: That is exactly right.
Allen: You could have a garden like this with mulch path and lots of flowers.
Female: In fact, when I maintaining our city’s little houses with their little lawns, I think, that Romana built a fence all the way around it and plant flowers with no lawn.
One of the lessons we can all learn by visiting a garden like Nancy’s is you do not have to have a lot of space to have something beautiful. Some of the smallest gardens are the most charming.
