How to Recover Deleted Files – Windows
Welcome to Tekzilla Daily. I’m Veronica Belmont. Have you ever accidentally deleted a file but didn’t realize it until after you’ve emptied the recycle bin? Oops. Well, if you're using Vista you're on luck. Tekzilla watcher Steven in Texas explains; shadow explore is a Vista program that accesses the Vista volume shadow copy service. In other words, if you’ve accidentally deleted a file and also emptied your recycled bin, there’s still a possibility you can get back the deleted file.
This truly saved his butt this one time. In Vista, the shadow copy service is turned on by default and is secretly making back ups of files on a regular basis. Shadow explore provides access to those old versions of your files. You can download this free tool from shadowexplore.com and it’s basically just an interface that allows you to select the past date and see any file that was on the system at that time. You can then copy the files back to your current active disc directories.
Thanks Steve. I'll definitely keep this tool on mine if I ever need to restore any of my old files. Who would have thought that Vista ships with something that’s useful?
