How to Play Nights In White Satin on Acoustic Guitar
This is a preview of a full lesson found at TotallyGuitars.com
Hi a lot songs have a really simple structure or foundation. Nights IN White Satin, great example. You can just strum the chords 3 or 4 times Em 2 measures D. Em, D, C, G, F back to Em. The chords goes to A 4 measures, C back to Em 2 and D just keeping entry chords going back and forth so that’s kind of vamp but one thing that’s really fun to do with rock n roll songs or any songs is combine the melody with the chords a little bit so with a song like Nights in White Satin aside from just strumming the chords you can take breaks and pick out the melody.
Well it also strum lightly as you’re hitting those melody notes and hear both. So part of what you need to be able to do is how the melody very clear in your head so when I teach people to do stuff like this and a lot of the free lessons that we have over at Totally Guitars doing things like this playing melodies while you’re playing the song, playing instrumental versions of songs but a lot of the or what trying to do is keep strumming going and keep the melody going. It means the melody has to be really clear in your head.
Anyway, you got to find the melody notes to a song and then figure out how you could play the chords to them at the same time so I have a lot more info in this type of technique with songs over Totally Guitars. We have video lessons. Free video lessons. There’s a forum where you can log in and ask for songs and just read what other people are saying about some of the songs and lessons. So when you get a chance come check us out at totally guitars.com and there you can work on nights and whites satin or other movie blues tunes or who knows Chicago tunes, Creedence Clearwater Revival, all kinds of cool stuff over there so come visit us when you can see you.
