Good day, I’m going to show today two really good exercises for improving double speed on the kick drum today. So the first one is really easy, it’s just triplets between your hi-hat and your kick drum. So this is simple as—so one, two, three, it’s really easy. And we base the exercises to start slow and build up the speed just be patient with it. One of my friends who’s a metal drummer and who has incredibly fast bass he just said that, all you do to get speed is be patient and practice properly and then speed will come very easily.
So you start up slow and gradually build it up. And something is really important as well is to eventually playing with your heel-up off the pedal. So you’re basically playing with the ball of your foot and your toes and not with your heel on the pedal board. This just give you, it will give you more leverage. You can work with the wide of your leg and using more muscles. You’re projecting down into the kick drum and just having these small muscles in your ankle during work pulling. So keep that in mind. You can turn it into a groove so, easy, that’s a bit more fun practice that way. So that’s the first one.
The second one is this time, right, left, kick, kick. So start it by practicing on one drum just to make sure you got pattern really smooth and really tight. And if you move around to other drums and make some really cool patterns. So that’s a great one. You can also as feels without solos. Everything and it’s also a great exercise so I’ll show you couple of fills of that one. You can do also some of that so practice those speed and you will be well on the way to improving your kick speed.
