How to Play a Bamboo Flute

On behalf of tvlesson.com, this is Trevor Ross representing EarthToneInstruments.net. In this clip, we’re going to learn about the bamboo flute. It’s a major scale. It’s built right into the flute. You can see there are six holes on top and you’re just kind of use the mouth hole up here but you’re going to cover these holes one at time. You’re just going to work your way down. You’re going to start with everything open. So here we go.

So that’s the major scale, it’s built right into it and this is another example of the spray finish where I will spray the water on, burn it with a torch and then bees waxed it. What I do is I heat up a hot iron and poke these holes and we actually grow this material right in our yard, in Orlando. And it’s a renewable resource and it loves the rain and you give it some—a little bit of food and we can grow this, we can grow on this for ten years now. I’ll show you the upper octave there.
