Hi, I am Janet, welcome to the smallest room in my house, my laundry room. I would like to talk to you about some tips on how to organize your laundry. Laundry is that never-ending job that can get away from you very quickly. Just like businesses have to take the time to do regularly scheduled work, like cleaning office equipment, you need to schedule time to do your laundry. Where you do your laundry, is kind of decided for you. Mine is in a very small room. You can't really do anything about that, so how you do your laundry, you can use some tips to help you out.

One thing is make sure, you have as much storage as possible. Shelves over your machine work great. Have your laundry supplies as close as possible to your machine. I also store my cleaning products in my laundry room. One rule with this is only by the products you can store, doesn't do you any good if your products are put in the garage or the basement because you've bought so much.

Another thing about doing laundry is when you do your laundry, and thats really a personal issue. Some people have a laundry day once a week and do all their laundry at that time. Other people prefer to try to do a load or two a day. This may work for you, if you have a regularly scheduled time when you throw a load in the machine. That works for me to do it early in the morning, when I am getting ready to leave the house, or maybe while I am making dinner, and I know I am going to be around for a while.

Another tip you can do is -- one of the issues with doing laundry that takes so much time is folding and putting away your clothes. Try to do this when you have free time; when you are talking on the phone or when you are watching your favorite TV show, right before you go to bed in the evening. This is also a great way to teach kids how to be responsible for themselves and help you do the laundry. They can start out by just helping you sort socks out of the basket, or help you put away clothes when they are old enough.

The main rule for doing laundry I believe is everyone needs their own hamper. Everyone can be responsible for their own clothing if they have their own hamper. In that way if you do laundry everyday you could manage it so that you only do one persons laundry at a time. This saves in the sorting at the end with whose socks are whose and whose t-shirt does this belong to. It'

Laundry is also a chore that is a good responsibility for your children. Very young they can learn how to throw their dirty clothes in their hamper. Then, as they get older they can learn how to bring their hamper down to the machine on their laundry day. And when they are even older you can teach them how to use the machines and do their own laundry. You will have taught them a great time management tool for when they grow up and move out of the house.
