How to Organize Your Entry Way
Rhiannon Ally: It’s the first thing people see when they come inside your home, your entry way. Professional Organizer Liza Zaslo shows us how to make it functional but also make a great first impression in today’s Get Organized.
The entry way is a dumping ground but at least it turns into that for most of us. You come in the house, you throw on your keys, throw on just about anything else. How do we get it organized?
Liza Zaslo: Okay. Got them organize is all about making organized and simple. So the first thing we want to do here is clear up obvious clutter. In this case, we saw often like glue and soda bottle. Things like clearly do not put on the entry way.
Next, we want to store the remaining items so, you see what we have then we can figure what to do with it. For example, there is toys, there is mail, there is keys, sunglasses, everything is jumbled together. So we’ll separate it out and then we’ll get to the next step.
Rhiannon Ally: Liza, we’re making some great progress here, but we see that big stack of mail, what a nice work and it’s just organized.
Liza Zaslo: Mail is a huge challenge for people. So one tip that makes a big difference is to sort your mail as soon as you bring it in to the house, get rid of the junk mail right away, catalogues that you’re not going to read and if you’re getting a lot of catalogues, call them up and ask to have your name removed from their mailing list, that will cut down on your mail. And you want to pull out things like bills that you need to pay, keep them separate, so that you can deal with them and do not forget about them.
Rhiannon Ally: What else can you leave here in the entry way that won’t be a big eyesore and will still be organized?
Liza Zaslo: What you want to do is have spots for all those things that you need when you’re running out the door in the morning. Your sunglasses, you keys, your cell phone, even a lint brush so that you look good as you’re patting out the door.
Rhiannon Ally: Good idea.
Liza Zaslo: Then, you’ll also have room now for the errands and you needed to take out of the house, something like a library book or a DVD, now you’ll notice that you won’t forget it. And there is also a spot now that you can put your bag when you come in after a long day of work. There is a great spot for it.
Rhiannon Ally: And no more like this. Thank you so much Liza this looks so much better. This will definitely make a good first impression on any visitors that come to your home.
