How to Organize Your Drill Bits

I'm always looking for a solution that’s going to get me a little bit better organized in my shop and this one has worked out well for me. Formerly, I just put all my drill bits, all my countersinks and soup cans like my petal bits are still in. It didn’t workout great for me. One of the things that happen is dust gets in there. It gets to be a big mess. Soon, I found these containers at home centers and these have really worked out well for me.

So on this end, what I've done is I've taken all my twist bits. And realistically I found that getting back in the drill index did not work for me. So instead, I organized them by size. I've got in this one, 3/8th and bigger and then as you can see as I worked my way down the line, I've got spans of sizes going all the way down to the tiny needles size bits that are in here. In other containers, screwdriver tips and drill stops and countersinks and self centering bits so I've taken most of my drilling supplies, got them organized in this different containers. Now, I know what you’re going to say is how do you know when you needed drill bit? What size you’re going to get? And I solved the problem by using my digital calipers. That’s what I’m looking for, specific size of drill bit that I can pull it out, measure it with the calipers, see exactly what I've got, nail that down until I have the drill bit that I need. I really, really like this system. If I put his in the tool box because I have to take them unto a job site or some place, they travel well. They’ve served me very, very well for keeping all of my boring supplies real well organized.
