And we have yet another kitchen. And the letter reads Dear Genevieve, Our kitchen is too small for our family of six. We have not much space.
So little counter-space and not enough cabinet space either. I am looking at your kitchen right now, you have a lot of space, you are just not using it.
It looks like there is a lot of unused space. You don't have a lot of upper cabinets. This would give you tons of storage real estate. Add upper cabinets like all the way to the ceiling using those top shelves for storage of seasonal items, things you don't need everyday, as well as the display if you want to leave partially-open cabinets as well.
I see that you that a have lot of stuff on your counter-tops. No wonder there is nowhere to work. Purge, have a garage sale. I see a little table in the middle, that is where I would create an island. A small table top island in the middle of the kitchen gives so much more function. All of a sudden you have a place to press, you have a place to sit and have snack. I think you have a lot of extra storage. So a great place to put a microwave as well.
As far as color goes, you don't have any, so let's bring in some greens, and golds, and whites, and creams, you definitely need to update these appliances. I am seeing 1975 here and that can't be fun for cooking. I will definitely do a marble counter-top if you could, and really add some life to this kitchen.
Let's break this down, we need to declutter, get rid of all the excess stuff you do not need. Definitely invest in a custom island. Upper cabinets, bring them all the way up to the ceiling. Let's bring in shades of green, gold, and ivory, and gray, may be a carrera marble counter-top. All of these things should make your kitchen feel about double the size that it is.
