Hey guys this time, I just want to share with you another GIMP tutorial and it’s a very quick one. So one of my subscribers last view was had placed a comment in one of my videos called make your own borders glass and animated supernova.

And it says here, how so you do a feather border. So it’s quite simple actually I had tried it and I want to share this quick and simple technique to you guys. So it’s how to do feathered border so it’s from sweetface1502 thanks for the suggestion or the question and let’s get started.

So first of is to load your image, so in my case it will be just an image of a beach it could be a signature, could be your web banner it really depend on you guys. Next we go to layer and then go to transparency, now we add alpha channel. So we go to layer again go to mask this time and we’re going to add a layer mask. So in this case we’re going to add a white (full opacity) layer mask. So hit add, to check it we go to our layers’ window by hitting control L, and we could see here that beside your image we now have a white mask layer. We select our image, we go to the select option and then we’re going to hit ALT. Now we go to shrink and we’re going to shrink this by how many pixels, it depends on you guys but I’ll go with 50.

Next we go to select again and then go to feather, this time we double the number of pixels we had earlier so we 50 double that we have 100, so hit OK. Again we go to select and this time we’re going to select invert, then we go to our layers window. We select the white mask layer instead of our image, so we select the white mask layer go to our Fill Tool and Fill it up with black. So go to select once more hit Done and boom you have your own image with a feathered border.

So we’re going to save this and when we opened it, so here we go so we have this sort of fathered border or a faded border. I do hope you enjoy that so that’s my video, it’s very quick video.
