How to Make an Oceanic Gope Board Part 3
Draw the shape for your Gope board. Make sure it is symmetrical and then cut it out. Next, fold the sheet of construction paper lengthwise. In cursive, write your name along the folded edge of the paper making certain that all letters set on the folded edge.
Fatten up the letters with the pencil and then cut out your name. Be careful not to cut apart any of your letters. Also, don’t forget to cut out the openings in the letters and the areas along the folded edge. Glue the design onto another sheet of construction paper a bit different earthy color.
Cut out the name design leaving about a quarter inch border. Again, don’t forget to cut out the openings of the letters then glue this onto your cardboard Gope board. Choose a border design from your patterns sheet and decorate with earth color such as browns, ochre, sienna, black and white, avoid blue and green.
Use markers or oil pastels. Apply a different pattern to your name design. For fun, choose some Papua New Guinea images to decorate the empty spaces of your board. Finish it off with some bundles of raffia and remember to have fun.
