Rebecca Brayton: A spirit with the pronounced flavor of juniper, gin is making a comeback. Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. And today we’re learning a few gin-based cocktail recipes.
Xavier Padovani: My name is Xavier Padovani. I represent Hendrick’s Gin. And I’m going to do today a cocktail which was created in Amberg, Germany called basil smash. So basil smash is going to be made with Hendrick’s gin today. Fresh lemon juice, sugar syraup, simple syrup, fresh basil – we’re going to shake all of that, serve it on ice in a teapot and we’re going to enjoy it.
We’re going to start using the fresh basil, try to choose a big, big leaf, we are going to crush all of this beautiful basil leaves. Smelly, you can tell it is quite fantastic. We are going to add our little sugar, it simply of water, sugar, fresh lemon juice, a little bit of Hendrick’s gin.
Then we crush – when you crush, be careful, it could splash everywhere and try to ready get all the extraction, all the color and the flavor and tastes. Here we are, add a little more gin, nice big measure. Use sugar, then your lemon juice, and then we’re going to get a big strong shake. I ice, a lot of ice. Before shaking, we are going to prepare my teapot.
Now I’m going to get a big strong shake. When you shake, try to be careful, you don’t want the liquid to splash everywhere. Just a bit of a quick movements to break everything that.
Here we are. Nice, otherwise give a little taste to make sure the taste is good. That’s perfect, and then top it up in your teapot. It’s a great thing about using the teapot, is you can make a drink for one, two, three, four people and the same drink will have the same consistencies. Here we are, it’s a basil smash.
