Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer. Today we’re going to the Dark and Stormy. This has been something I’ve been contemplating doing. I was a little worried because it was kind of short, simple but tons of people asking about dark and stormy especially we did our last ginger and Goslings episode. Well that was with ginger ale, this one is with ginger beer.
I don’t think this has any alcohol and I bought this at the liquor stores. It's just that a can of 12 ounce ginger beer from Bermuda. It's kind of expensive. It's like $6.00 for a six-pack. It's not something everybody buys. It's not like Budweiser so it's going to be a little more expensive.
The Goslings-- this is really the dark and stormy. This is what makes it. This is like one of those recipes where you’re supposed to use this specific type of rum. You could try it with other rum and see I was going to taste. We’re going to put that on a highball glass. We’re going to use a half of slice or half an ounce of limejuice, a little stir and a little garnish. We’re just going to garnish it so you can easy use the lime wheel. I just did a lime wedge, whatever yu think looks best.
So, you know what, it's really hot out here in Greenwood today. So I think you need to wear a wine shirt. Check that out. Ain’t that cool? It’s a little gift from the mom from mall mart I think. So we’re going to use this. We’re going to get two ounces of the Goslings, three ounces of the ginger beer or what I call, just fill it until it feels to the top. We’ll put up some ice in there first though because it's hot. There you go.
So, let’s start with the two ounces. See we’ve roll with the Hawaiian shirt you know, ain’t that funny. I don’t know why I ask, I know what you’re going to say. So we’re going to use two ounces right in here. Let’s do the lime. I couldn’t measure it but I know it's about an ounce for a piece of lime. So I figure if I cut it in half quite evenly that should be pretty close to what I need to be at throw it in there. It smells like lime probably because of the fingers. It's like ginger ale without the sweetness to it. Let’s pour that in there. It really gives it a cool gold color, stir it up a little bit, just a little. The ice full is right to the top. Kind of give it in an ice classy look, drop a little lime wedge on there. There you go that’s your dark and stormy. It's dark and icy, I don t know. I can smell a little rum, lots of ginger.
That’s refreshing. It's hot. That’s good. Now, it may depend in what type of ginger beer you have. What your probably going to find is a little spicy and a lot of ginger if you just drink this straight which I suggest doing because it gives you an idea of what the best balances for your taste buds. You should always try everything straight just a little bit. It's like biting into ginger. It's pretty strong. I don’t know if anybody drinks that straight like I guess or not but with the rum, which is sweeter, a little lime in there. You really add a new complexity to just ginger beer. Overall, this is a great drink. Obviously, it's easy to make. You should try it. There you go. That’s your dark and stormy.
