Female Speaker: A good compost pile requires the proper ratio of carbon-rich materials, which are called browns, and nitrogen-rich materials, which are called greens. Browns include leaves, straw, and wood chips. While greens include grass cuttings and kitchen scraps.
You want your mixture to be about 25 part brown to one part greens. If you have too many greens, it will cause an odor, and if you have too many browns, it may cause it to break down too slowly.
