How to Look 30 at Age 50
Audra Lowe: Now, everybody is working and looking, feel better these days. In fact, thousands of people turned out for Fitness magazine’s ninth annual mind, body, fitness games right in Central Park.
The games are all about the whole family sharing in a day of fitness. This year, celebrity Chef Rocco DiSpirito hosted the event.
Rocco DiSprito: I grew up with lots of great food and no fitness and as I fell in the fitness on a complete fluke about five years ago crossing the first finish line, I realized it was such a huge gift to be able to take control over what's going on your body and stay healthy.
Audra Lowe: A passion that is happening this year with 6,000 runners. They say that 50 is the new 30, so why not look that young too? You can actually turn back the clock and age proof your body. Tosca Reno is here. She is the author of Your Best Body Now and she is going to share us some of her top tips for looking years younger. And check her out, the cover of Oxygen magazine. You are looking fantastic, 51 years old. Congratulations!
Tosca Reno: Yeah, thank you and you look great too.
Audra Lowe: Well thanks but I will not be on any magazine covers anytime soon but the tips that you have, a lot of people can follow because they're seeing by example what you do. And one of the first things that you say that we can do is really just take pride in your grooming. It sounds simple but there are specifics, right?
Tosca Reno: You are right. And we have to learn how to brush our teeth and brush our face. This sounds crazy. But you know, these are your pearly whites, you have gorgeous teeth. It is a lot of light shining from those teeth, people look for that.
I have also brought my Clarisonic which is my personal exfoliator. I love this thing. When your skin is sort of dry and funny looking, give it a good brushing and I do it once a week.
Audra Lowe: Okay. Bronzer is also another thing that’s on your list.
Tosca Reno: Yes.
Audra Lowe: How does that make you look younger?
Tosca Reno: Sun kissed, it has usually little particles of glitter I guess and that helps reflect light and light shining from your face gives an impression of youth. Same if you put gloss on your lips.
Audra Lowe: I see. Look at you. Okay, now we are going to talk about the eyebrows because this is a really good trick that you have here.
Tosca Reno: I think if you groom your brows using a nice kit like something from Carol Shop perhaps, it lifts 10 years off your face. I'm an eyebrow watcher. I started watching. In your best body now, I’d put that tip in there because I thought it is one of those key things that people miss out on. I have really sparse brows, so I'm always penciling.
Audra Lowe: I feel like I’m in to. I do the same exact thing. And exercising is very important and then getting to sleep. So, what would you say specifically to those?
Tosca Reno: Seven to eight hours of sleep is critical. Your body produces human growth hormone at that time. In your best body now, we’ve also put in a fantastic training regimen. You don’t need a gym. You don’t need a lot of money. You just need a couple of weights, you need to know how. You can live tight and separate and look hot.
Audra Lowe: And then nutrition is very, very, very important. I know that’s what you are all about.
Tosca Reno: It’s a huge part of what we do here. 80% of how we look and feel has to do with what we are putting in our mouths.
Audra Lowe: 80%.
Tosca Reno: 80%.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Tosca Reno: That’s a big, big factor.
Audra Lowe: Yeah.
Tosca Reno: So, let’s make sure that we make it a partnership of lean protein and complex carbohydrates. The protein here from salmon, it got nice healthy fats in there. We’ve got quinoa which is a perfect whole grain, its fantastic. Vitamin C in the broccoli fiber, this is your life line.
