Hi, I’m Bill Frishman with BGB Builders. Today, our project is building a closet. The last step in our closet, before we turn it over to the painter is to put the lockset on. Now normally I actually do that after it’s painted but for this purpose I’m going ahead and show you how to put it on right now. The first thing we’re going to do is put the latching mechanism into the door. Now, you do that with the latch facing, what’s going to be the striker plate at the door. So basically, this latch, just make sure this is facing the door. We go ahead, slide that in there, and we’ll put our screws in. Now depending on your application you may need to use a chisel to prepare this area, but if the door and the lockset are normally aligned, that they use the same faceplate. And it will already be modest out for the face plate but you can use a chisel if you need to make the opening a little different. The next thing we’re going to do is put the striker plate on. That follows the same principle if you need to adjust your opening for the modest opening, you can go ahead and do that. Our last step is to put the doorknob in to the locking mechanism. We take the screws that they gave us and we tighten it to the door. Now, this is where you’re going to need a long screwdriver and you got to have a long screw driver because you can’t get a screw gun close enough. We’re going to take a long screwdriver. We’re going to tighten these screws, and we do the same on the other side. So, our doorknob is finished. I wanted to show you the finished product. You can see that we’ve finished all the coats of drywall mud. We’ve put our flat paint on our wall. We used our semi-glass paint on our trim and door. We’ve got our finished product. Now, I’ll need something to put inside our closet and something tells me that won’t be a problem. So take care.
