Hey, you don't have to completely renovate the kitchen to add a bold style, you can make a simple statement by adding a new backslash. Now we are going to add a backslash in this kitchen. It's going to take us less then half a day for under 100 dollars. So, I think you will agree, it's an elegance that you just can't beat.
One of the things that's I have looked as an architectural detail for the backslash. Now backlashes come in all sorts of different materials. I have seen glass, I have seen terracotta, I have even seen stainless steel. Now one of the key design elements in planning the backslash is whether or not it ties into the countertop.
Just make sure that the colors are nice and uniformed and they all tie in together. Now, in this kitchen they have a laminate counter, this worked out really well for the budget when it was installed. But now, they want to dress it up. So, what we did is we purchased some tin tiles. Now, lot of people put them on the ceiling.
I'm going to show you how to install them as a backslash. Now, we have a really bright light kitchen, you can go for any color, it just depends on how adventurous you are. Now, in all circumstance, we're actually going to stick with current, because we have a little window light. So, all the reflection we can gather, the better for the cooking.
Now, if you have a look at this what I actually did is I leveled the line from the countertop across. I am going to use this as a reference point. So when I make my measurements I got from the same point every time. Now here is the design tip when installing something like this, that these factory edges are generally in a very good condition so what you wanna do is to have them in the exposed points. So my factory edge is going to be on this angle here on the wall and it's going to be running straight across.
We have chosen 2x2 foot tin sheets, that are embossed with many tile prints. Still in lot of smaller tiles would take much more time and much more measuring. Now that was fairly easy to cut. Now here is the little tip. Turn off the power before you install this, just in case. So the quick grab glue is a great way to put this actually on to the wall. Instead of just putting the next piece straight over the top what I am going to do is solder primary piece which is already installed. It's going to look seamless. The only time you will see the joint, is when you down this in. And you know, not so many people are going to come down on to this level.
Lucky last piece. You little beauty! Now this dull and boring kitchen has transformed with these beautiful practical tiles. Now that make the kitchen seem broader and it just gives it a more elegant feel and I think you'll agree that 30 dollars and about two hours of your life, this is the transformation you're going to want to do in your own kitchen.
