Audra Lowe: Okay now it's time for better beauty and whatever your skin type is, there's always a skin care concerned. It's on the horizon. We'll Dr. Pratima Raichur is here and she is address some of the biggest concerns out there with some surprising solutions. Good to have you here doctor.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Thank you for having me.
Audra Lowe: Yeah, and what you say is really the lifestyle change depending on if your skin is dry, oily, is that correct?
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes, skin is only outer reflection of what happens inside. So every food we eat, every breath we take, every exercise we do or the food, the products we use, it is a lifestyle. Everything affects the skin.
Audra Lowe: Now if you've got dry skin for example, there's certain foods that are surprising to me that you should stay away from and certain foods that you really should be eating, for example we got some down here.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes according to my opinion, all the - if you have a dry skin, the first thing to avoid is all the dry fruits, salads, uncooked food, raw food, all of these -
Audra Lowe: This popped hard cheese -
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes hard cheese, popcorn, anything which is dry, which is not good.
Audra Lowe: And we are replacing it I see like avocado, obviously its going be moist for your skin.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Warm food, cooked food, avocados, omegas, all kinds of ghee and a little bit of oil. Oil is better for dry skin.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: And lots of water, water is very, very important..
Audra Lowe: To hydrate the skin.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes, to hydrate the skin.
Audra Lowe: Flip side to that, you've got oily skin, so what types of things should you stay away from? We always hear that fry foods, chocolates, do you agree with that?
Dr. Pratima Raichur: I do a good agree. If you skin is oily, absolutely no -- no milk. Again no cheese, noting fried.
Audra Lowe: Cookies are gone -
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Cookies are gone, sweets are gone, all of those things are not good.
Audra Lowe: And what should you be replacing with it if you've got oily skin to keep it from being so oily?
Dr. Pratima Raichur: We should replace that with lots of herbal teas, herbal teas are good, but anything which is astringent and bitter which is lentos beans.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yeah.
Audra Lowe: Now, acne and eczema, you kind of lump those two together because the solutions for - are similar for those.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Are mostly similar.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yeah because if you have acne or eczema it is an irritation of skin. So tomatoes will irritate the skin, the sugar will irritate the skin.
Audra Lowe: Anything which is - it's an acid in these.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Alright, in the tomatoes.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yeah. Again as long as you avoid these things then -
Audra Lowe: Anything else should be okay.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yeah, it should be fine, yeah.
Audra Lowe: Okay and another area that I wanted to talk about with you is arthritis. Lots and lots of people suffering from arthritis, is there anything that you can do internally on your skin to help combat that?
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes, arthritis again is inflammation. So you should avoid again tomatoes.
Audra Lowe: Avoid the tomatoes, there's something in it, the acid in the tomatoes, is that affects the arthritis?
Dr. Pratima Raichur: Yes, because it is inflammation arthritis. Again we have three different kinds of arthritis, so we say use the Mahanarayan Oil to massage -- oil massages is the best thing.
Audra Lowe: Interesting.
Dr. Pratima Raichur: For arthritis externally.
