On behalf of tvlesson.com, I’m Lisa Corrao. I’m a stand up comedian, lisacorrao.com. In this clip we are going to show you how to handle the light in a stand up comedy club or standup comedy show, okay. And when I say the light, maybe you’re thinking about the bright lights up there that are shining in your eyes, but when I say the light, I’m talking about a little signal that management is going to give you when its time to get off stage. Timing is so important in comedy. The amount of the time in the whole show is going to depend on how much time each person is doing. So you have to make sure not to go over your time even if you’re doing well. Yes, you could be killing, if you get the light, it’s time to wrap it up. Otherwise, everyone is going to hate you, management is going to hate you, the other comedians are going to hate you and in some cases, yes, even the audience is going to hate you. It’s a good idea when you get to the club, ask the manager, where’s the light going to be coming from. Because lets face it, there are a lot of destructions while you’re on stage. And those lights are really bright in your eyes. So ask if it’s going to be directly in the back or off to the side, maybe via sound booth. And who’s going to be giving it to you. Also, what is the light, is it going to be a flash light, sometimes they just wave their phone at you, and by the way, when you get the light give a little nod, that way, they know you saw it, and they are not going to keep doing this to you, like there, waiving in a shift or something like that. No, give them a little wink or nod or point, I don’t care, something so they know. Okay, and usually they’ll give you like one signal like this when you’re a minute away from being done, then when they want you off, you’re going to get this, and it’s going to look frantic. Okay, so wrap up your last joke, say thank you very much and then you will have respected the light in a comedy club. On behalf of tvlesson.com, this is Lisa Corrao, thanks for watching.
