How to Get a Fresh Summer Face
Bear: It’s summer and I need help with my skin.
Lani: I need something more dramatic with my eyes. Please help!
Sandy: What can I do with my lips?
Bear: Summer’s here. I don’t want to wear a ton of make up but I’ve got so much skin damage and freckles and sun stuff that I need help with.
Female: Are you wearing sunscreen?
Bear: I wear sunscreen. I have a reformed tanner.
Female: Alright, let’s get started.
Bear: I’m ready.
Female: Alright!
So, first I’m going to start with a moisturizer that has a little bit of an iridescent to it. So, that will help give you skin a little bit of a glow. Just start it in the T-zone area. You would want to put this on top of your SPF that you're doing daily because you want to make sure that you don’t get any future damage.
Bear: Totally.
Female: While you’re taking care of your skin now.
Okay, so I’m going to go in on the foundation. Again, this is just a nice light weight foundation. Using a brush, you can use a brush. You can also use finger tips. I like to use a sponge just to buff it out to get a little more coverage in the areas I want the coverage. And it’s okay to go a little darker for summer. You want to do a lighter weight foundation if you do that and then take it into the neck.
Now, I’m going to go back and just do a little spot concealing in some areas that might need a little more coverage. You just start with something that’s going to give a little color neutralizer like a peach. I’m using a brush for that. I like using a brush because you have a lot of control. One good tip is to not do too much concealer towards the outside of the eye where it tends to gather.
I’m going to set everything just with a nice sheer mineral powder which is great for summer, not too heavy.
So you’ve been wanting to learn how to bronze but you’re afraid of going orange. So, I’m going to start with a MAC bronzer. Trick is to pick the right bronzer for your complexion and also how you apply it.
So, what I’m going to start with first is just lightly sprawl the product, just a dip a little, get around the outside of the face and follow down the side of the cheek bone. So, what I’m going to do is on top of that bronzer, we’re going to put a light pinkly blush to tie it all in.
Alright you ready?
Bear: I’m ready.
Female: Alright, let’s take a look.
Bear: Oh my god! I love it!
Female: How does it feel?
Bear: First of all, it hardly looks like I’m wearing a tone of makeup but it looks like I’ve got really awesome glow. I love it!
Female: We’re looking for something to bring out your eyes a little bit more right?
Lani: Anything that can just brighten up my eyes and maybe something with my eyebrows and they’re a little thin.
Female: Alright Lani, let’s get started.
Lani: Okay.
Female: Alright.
Okay, so Lani, first thing I’m going to do is start with your brows. So, I’m just going to take a brush just to make sure they’re all going on the same way. Then I’m going to fill them in with eye shadow and a brush, that’s great because you have a little more control. In the summer time, it doesn’t get as waxy as a pencil will, just defining the shape with soft strokes.
Okay, so I’m going to put a light shimmer on the eyelid before we go into doing a couple of false lashes on. You just get a little on the brush, tap out the excess. Sometimes, you’ll get a little fall out, soft firm pats.
As our next step, we’re going to do individual false lashes. You can put them all the way across the eyes or on selected area. So, if you’re going to do them yourself, what you want to do is to hold onto a mirror. So, you would want to take just a small amount of glue, you don’t need a lot. That’s another step that people get wrong, too much glue. Just a little on the tip like that and then see where you want to place it and just place it right on top of the lash, right where you lash naturally grows out of.
Then you just want to feel a push, kind of adjust them a little bit my pressing around. I like to apply them with a tweezer. And if you want them a little bit thicker, you can just add them right on top of each other. I always think lashes are one of the quickest ways to really completely alter your look as dramatic or just as subtle as you want to.
So now that we have them on, I’m just going to put a little bit of mascara over them to blend them with other lashes.
Lani: Oh, okay.
Female: It just gives it a little bit of a denser look.
Alright Lani, ready for your reveal?
Lani: I’m ready for the reveal.
Female: Let’s check it out.
Lani: I look so cute!
Female: And that was just a couple of steps.
Lani: And that is really simple.
Sandy: I need some color on my lips and I’m actually afraid of color.
Female: Okay, common fear, people are afraid of the brighter colors but I’m going to show you what kind of texture you can wear and how you can wear it that is right for your skin.
Alright, are you ready for your bright summer look?
Sandy: Yes!
Female: Alright, let’s do it.
What I’m going to start with is just a light neutral lip pencil. It's just going to give you a little shape and hold the color in that I’m going to be applying.
Sandy: Okay.
Female: So it’s closer to the lip tone, so this will give it just a little bit more of a pinky peach color.
One good way to do a brighter color is in a lip gloss form because it’s going to be a little bit more sheer so you’re going to see a little bit of the lip color through without it opaque like a MAC lipstick. So you can pick the brighter colored gloss and you’re just going to get a tinge of color on the lips.
Sandy: Okay.
Female: I’m using one that’s for summer that has a just a little bit of shimmer in it, too. With the gloss, it’s the best to keep it towards the center of the lip. It will naturally move on it’s own since it’s an emollient product. A lot of times when people take it to the edge of the lip, then it starts to bleed outward. This gives you that nice bitten lip kind of look, that juicy bitten lip.
Sandy: Am I going to have an Angelina Jolie lips after this?
Female: They will be juicier but I can’t guarantee that.
Sandy: Close enough.
Female: Close enough.
Alright, so do you believe me now that this color will come out soft and pretty?
Sandy: No, I want to see it!
Female: Okay, great!
Sandy: It looks pretty bright. I’m just scared.
Female: Alright, I’m going to show you that you can pick up a gloss in this color and actually will come out sheer and pretty and beachy.
Sandy: Okay.
Wow! That’s nice.
Female: Never guessed right?
Sandy: Uh-huh.
Female: Don’t be afraid of bright color when it comes to gloss.
